The format of the Auburn, and San Juan Bautista retreats is similar to Janes sew labs, where each person works on her own projects and schedule. There will be a Show and Tell, and the level of sewing is as intense or as relaxed as you choose. Jane will interact with students for a minimum of 6 hours a day on their projects.

Information on Retreats Held at the St Francis Retreat in San Juan Bautista

The grounds are lovely and serene. Rooms are simple with a bathroom in the room. Rooms may be either single or double depeding on availability of the retreat center. The sewing and dining room is just a few steps from the sleeping rooms. The three meals a day are served buffet style, and the last time we were there they were divine. A great chef, lots of fresh food, and several choices.

The nearby town has a quilt shop, fabulous Mexican restuarant, mission, etc. It's also just a short drive to shopping in Pacifc Grove, Monterey, or Carmel.

Pacific Grove is about 45 minutes away, and sometimes students take an afternoon to do a bit of shopping there. A d favorite is Back Porch Fabrics. While it is mainly a quilting store, the owner has great taste, and usually you will find something in the store you really must purchase. We also love to shop Marita's store their interesting shoes and garments. Also, Carmel and all its shopping is only about an additional 5 or 10 minutes drive away.

The retreat offers double or single rooms with bathrooms, three meals a day (wonderful food), a spacious sewing room, and Jane.

Students coming to Jane's sewing retreats bring their sewing machines and work on projects that yearn to be started or finished.  The retreat centers provides a room for sewing, and students enjoy the time without interruptions from TV or telephone calls. This is a sewing retreat and sewing vacation all rolled up into one wonderful and fun event.

Jane is an excellent sewing instructor with years of experience.  She has exceptional talent in the designing and fitting of garments.  She emphasizes color choices and garment lines that compliment each person.  The class size is usually limited.  Some students are early risers and sew on their own before breakfast. After breakfast Jane helps students with their projects for 3 hours, and then everyone breaks for lunch.  After lunch there will be free time to sew or go on an outing.  At 4:00 PM Jane again helps individual students until dinner, and then again after dinner.  So each student has ample individual attention throughout the entire sewing retreat.

These events are SO successful.  Call Jane now to reserve a space in the next sewing retreat.  The sewing retreats and vacations can fill up quickly. Students from past years are eager to come again.

Below are a few words from women who have been to one of my sewing retreats

  • Spending time with Jane at the retreat is both stimulating and relaxing. Jane continues to challenge our perceptions, stretch our design aesthetics, and encourages us to explore or invent new techniques.
  • It goes without saying that Jane is a very special sewing and design instructor. Having her help you with your sewing for several days is an unbelievable treat, and I feel very fortunate to be able to attend. I feel I accomplish a lot that I couldn't have done on my own, and at the same time have gained skills that will help me on future projects. Besides the positive sewing experience, I love being with the fun group of women attending these retreats. And the group synergy is inspiring.
