Jane Foster's 2017 Sewing Retreat at the Mercy Center in Auburn, CA

Jane Foster's 2017 Sewing Retreat and Vacation in Auburn, CA

Another successful and productive Mercy Center Auburn Sewing retreat is over. The five nights was just right, with time to get plenty sewn, relax, and socialize.
Sally was kind enough to provide her paints and screens for one of the days, and we took a field trip to Loomis on another afternoon. We went to visit The Tin Thimble which is a delightful little store that sells felting supplies plus some fabric, vintage patterns and buttons.
I look forward to taking another group of students back to the Mercy Center again in 2018.

Enjoy the photos below.

Jeanne has an exciting but scary moment as she cuts into her fabric from New York from Mendel Goldberg. She is making a couture jacket.

Diana is working on the quilting for her couture jacet.

Vicki is working on a complicated rain jacket.

Robin sews her top.

The basis for Vicki's linen dress was Vogue 8509. Jane helped design the cowl collar.

Jane is fitting a garment on Jasna.

Robin made this charming top using stretch lace from JoAnn's.

Robin used African fabrics for these "snakes", which can be used as door draft stoppers.

Barbara made another cute Katherine Tilton top.

Barbara made this dress using the Libby Dress pattern from StyleArc. She used twin needle stitching on the yoke.

Slyvia always has fun at Jane's retreats and can share some funny stories.

Slyvia made this lined tailored coat using Butterick B6251, She just needs to add the buttons.

Santina and Barbara both worked on the same dress pattern at Auburn, and now are ready to put the linings in...Wait till they are finished you see them wearing them.

Jackie trimmed her tee with black knit.

Sally once again generously brought her silk screens and fabric paint for all of us to use, and also displayed some of the tops she had stenciled. You can order her stencils from her Etsy website.

Vicki silk screened her top. The pattern is a result of many fittings with Jane, and now has been trasferred to tag board as her master pattern.

Vicki used fabric paints to depict a coho salmon on her suitcase and allow her to quickly identify her luggage.

Jasna is silk screening a section of her tee shirt. She will eventually add several different designs in different values of color.

Sally and Marie both made StyleArc's Kim Swing Top, and decorated them with silk screening. Jane thinks this pattern is flattering on many ladies.

Sally made this really cute top and enhanced the fabric with silk screening details. The pattern is Pearl Knit Top by StyleArc

The silk screening design was done vertically on the sleeve, and then another pass was done horizontally. Very effectively done.

Jane, Sharon, and Diana enjoyed a pre-retreat visit to Napa.
