Sewing Retreat and Vacation at Mercy Center in Auburn, CA with Jane Foster

Jane Foster's 2018 Sewing Retreat and Vacation in Auburn, CA

Jane's sewing students had a lot of fun on the fall 2018 sewing retreat in Auburn. They were able to sew, paint, stencil, embroider, create patterns, make muslins, get expert fittings, and just enjoy themselves and the company of all the fabulous students.

Jane gave a stitching demonstration, Sally showed students how to use stencils, and Maria gave a truck show. What a great time. Everyone appreciated Jane for making this happen.

Jeanne made this cozy jacket while on the retreat, and then embellishied it by embroidering the circles in Jane's studio. She used boiled wool and StyleArc's Violet Knit Jacket pattern. The edges have three rows of chanel stitching to give it stability. Outstanding.

Robin highlighted the asymetrical design with her great buttons. She used Sandra Betzina's Vogue V7281 pattern.

Robin made the Decades of Style #3006 1930s Lily Jacket using a black denim and light colored thread for topstitching.

Diana found a great combination of fabrics to make this Marcy Tilton Vogue V9057 top.

Sally made this jacket from a fleece fabric with different shades of blue on each side, and used the lighter blue side as a trim. She used Marcy Tilton's Vogue V8676 pattern. The interesting buttons were from a trip she took to Paris. The jacket is finished with several inside zipped pockets, and the result is a perfect travel jacket for her.

Thea made an easy to wear dress for summer.

Thea just purchased a new embroidery Bernina machine, and was busy embroidering on outfits for little kids, and Christmas decorations.

Jane fits a muslin on Joyce.

Once the muslin fit was perfect, Joyce made a pattern of the muslin and then put it on tag board.

Barbara likes Katherine Tilton's Vogue V8817 pattern, and has made it several times. She always finds interesting fabric combinations.

Vicki M now has a fun top to wear with her red slacks.

Susie made a slip using Sew Chic Pattern Company's pattern Valentine Lingerie Slip

Sally gave a demonstration on using paint and silk screens to decorate fabric. She had previously made many sets of napkins to show everyone.

She also generously brought her screens, paints, and supplies, and Jane's students had fun using them. You can see Sally's screens on her Etsy website.

Maria is painting on fabric and letting her creative vision guide her.

Susies uses a stencil to place dots on her fabric.

JoAnn and Jane plan out the design for JoAnn's aqua top.

Here is JoAnn's finished screened top. Wonderful.

Susie used a Marcy Tilton screen for the design on her top.

JoAnn screened the fabric, and then made this great tote.

Vicki and Jane enjoy enjoy the creative process.

Maria treated the group to a trunk show of some of her creations. In the above photo she is showing the silk screening she often does on the lining of her garments. We all appreciated seeing her accomplishments.

Jackie made this moto jacket using Butterick B6169. She works near Britex, and found her fabric there.

JoAnn finished her row by row Las Vegas quilt.

Jean and Jane are working on this wool jacket designed by Guy Larouche. The pattern is Vogue V1335.

It is an oversized jacket, and she had fun figuring out all the seams and how to sew it all together.

Time to relax in the dining room and enjoy the company.

This fabric was picked out by Betty's son. It reminded him of his fun vacation in Colorado, so Betty made it into a quilt for him.

Sharon made several princess seamed tops from a pattern developed by Jane, and now with Janes help has perfected the setting in of the sleeves. She is busy making a new master pattern.

Our sewing teacher, Jane Foster, made the pattern for the top she is wearing. She bought the fabric on her New York trip, and then embroidered the designs.
