Barbara S

Barbara S. has been coming to my studio to sew with me for a few years. She is originally from Germany and has sewn for most of her life. She grew up with what I call “old school “ methods of hand basting and thread marking everything. So she has a good foundation behind her.

I enjoy having her in the studio, as she is fun and I love hearing about her German roots and how her mother sewed for her. In fact she brought some of her mother’s stash fabric with her. My task has been to encourage her to sew and create interesting designs.

Barbara had never sewn on a knit fabric, but was willing to try. She is making her first French couture jacket and has plans for another. She is always happy to accept my challenges, and adds joy and positive energy to her sew lab sessions.

Please enjoy seeing what she has created.

Barbara used Marcy Tilton's Vogue 9153 for her top.

Barbara got this fabric in the 70's in Belgium and now has made it into a top with Kwik Sew 4195.

Barbara looks good in this simple shirt.  The pattern is by Louise Cutting and Linda Lee. She found the silk/cotton fabric at Britex Fabrics.

This top was constructed with Burda 6632.

This fun vest is Vogue V9135 by Kathryn Breene. Barbara used a shiny rayon, and the drawstring ties are a nice design feature.

This Decades of Style 1950's Stole was made with a boiled wool blend. Barbara omitted flap and the lining.

This cute shirt was made with Butterick 6376

This skirt was created using NewLook 6640 pattern.

Marcy Tilton's Vogue 9272 pattern was used to create this tee.

Barbara made her own pattern to create this wool top. The body of the top was based on Kwik Sew 4195. The pattern for the collar was based on McCall's 5052.

The pattern for the peplum was Butterick 5611

Barbara is wearing a warm and comfortable flannel shirt. The fabric came from Stone Mountain and Daughter Fabrics in Berkeley. She created the pattern herself, and used McCallar's 5052 collar.

A lovely textured cotton has made Barbara this simple A-line summer dress. The back view has a ruffle feature. The pattern used was Vogue V9237

This top was made with Kwik Sew 4195. Barbara closed the side slits.

Barbara's plaid jacket was created using McCall's 6750. She had fun working with the plaid.

Jeanne and Barbara model muslins made with a pattern called Nova Coat by Papercut

They both look great in their new coats.

Having fun together.
