Liddy
Liddy is a character! I enjoy her very much because she makes me laugh. When she retired from real estate she had the idea of designing a line of clothes for women like her to wear. She enrolled in Suzy Furrer’s School, Apparel Arts, and studied pattern making and fashion design for a few years. During that time she found me and my studio. She enjoys funky clothes and is very creative. She is a colorful addition to the Friday morning sew labs. Here she used the Genevieve StyleArc pattern for her Kantha coat. Enjoy seeing some of her creativity.
Liddy calls this her “forever” coat dress because of all the work involved. It’s her own design and she made the fabric by piecing it as in quilting. Then she worked running stitches by hand over the fabric, as in kantha or sashiko. Liddy lined the coat so the inside would have a finished look. There is a zipper down the center front edge
Over the past few years Liddy has taken many classes at Apparel Arts in Oakland, CA. She was learning how to draft her own patterns. Using her new knowledge, she has just made this very stylish ensemble! The lightweight wool blouse has a hidden button placket, and the cotton skirt is paneled. These are her own designs. The sleeveless top is a princess line with slits at the hemline and handworked arrowheads.
Liddy looks so good in this striped linen shirt. The fabric came from Stone Mountain and Daughter in Berkeley. The pattern is a well-loved favorite here in the studio. It is by Katherine Tilton, and many students have made it. It has narrow tucks that are sewn on the outside. She loved the fabric so much, she went back to Stone Mountain and bought some more to make a skirt.
