Kathleen M
Kathleen and I have spent several years sewing together. We’ve shared weddings and becoming grandparents. Since Kathleen is also a weaver, you will see a blanket she wove for her grandson and the woven fabric she used for a jacket.
Many of our sewing students have enjoyed tours by Kathleen at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco where she is a docent. I am happy to share with you the wonderful range of garments that Kathleen created for herself and her family throughout the years.
Kathleen made this blouse using a Sewing Workshop pattern, and the cotton fabric came from Jane’s Spoonflower shop. She’s especially drawn to the bamboo design because she serves as a docent at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, and the symbols in the print translate to “bamboo.” A contrasting collar and cuffs add a thoughtful embellishment, while different shades of green were used to create the button fastening. The narrow green strip along the center front provides a clean separation between the prints. Kathleen looks fantastic in this blouse.
The two collars are different sizes, and are made separately and then attached together and sewn onto the neck opening. Jane says there is a fine line between under and over pressing silk charmeuse. Too much pressing would have ruined the shape of the collars. This Marfy 2467 pattern was a freebie with the Marfy pattern book.
