I am so happy to introduce you to Katherine W. She is a very talented artist, musician, teacher, and quilter who has been coming to my sew labs for over 20 years! When Katherine and I first met, she was hand smocking dresses for her one year old daughter and needed help sewing them together. Yes her daughter is now graduated from college! Katherine’s bright positive personality means she a pleasure to have in the studio. She has been a prolific needlewoman of clothes for herself and her family, and of many many quilts to keep as family heirlooms.
Katherine and Jane went shopping at Piedmont Fabrics and found this gorgeous silk chiffon. Katherine made it into an amazing Decades of Style Butterfly blouse.

Summer sewing retreat
Katherine made her top out of Jane’s faces fabric. Jane drew the faces of most of her students and has it in her Spoonflower shop. Katherine enjoys wearing it because she sees all of her artistic friends on the fabric.
Katherine made this beautiful top. The fabric is from Stone Mountain fabrics in Berkeley by Lady McElroy. This is extra special because Katherine has used her embroidery smocking skills to make the top unique. She has used traditional smocking in a modern way.

Katherine attended Jane's Mini Poppin Bag class. She made this second bag as a gift for her mom.
Katherine's couture jacket is stunning. Her beautiful silk jacket has a zippered front opening. The multicolored pink fabric came from Piedmont fabrics.

Katherine purchased faux leather and a black knit fabric from Stone Mountain and Daughter Fabrics, and she made this dress for Jane's leather challenge. She used the leather for the side panels and the front yoke.
Kathryn bought some leather in Morocco and some from The Hide House in Napa. She plans to make a color blocked vest with Vogue V8932 pattern.
Katherine made a little rabbit in a basket with a bed to match her quilt.
