A garment made by Barbara S

Barbara S. has been coming to my studio to sew with me for a few years. She is originally from Germany and has sewn for most of her life. She grew up with what I call “old school “ methods of hand basting and thread marking everything. So she has a good foundation behind her.

I enjoy having her in the studio, as she is fun and I love hearing about her German roots and how her mother sewed for her. In fact she brought some of her mother’s stash fabric with her. My task has been to encourage her to sew and create interesting designs.

Barbara had never sewn on a knit fabric, but was willing to try. She is making her first French couture jacket and has plans for another. She is always happy to accept my challenges, and adds joy and positive energy to her sew lab sessions.

Please enjoy seeing what she has created.

Barbara S used boiled wool to make this Decades of Style stole. The stole is such a clever idea and it can be made in a few hours if you don’t line it. Once it is on, both of your hands are free, and it stays on.
