Winter Sewing Weekend

Winter 2006 Sewing Weekend in Jane Foster's Studio

Jane is helping several students design a couture Chanel style jacket.  The first step is to get a perfectly fitted muslin.  The sleeve is made of three pieces, and the sleeve cap is fitted exactly.   Then the muslin garment is removed, taken apart, and the muslin is used as the pattern.  Seam allowances are removed from the pattern, and then the wool and lining are cut out adding an extra large seam allowance (about 1.5 to 2 inches).   The sewing line on the pieces is then marked with a basting line.

Jane has Vickie's muslin fitting almost done.

Ellen has the sleeve fitting adjusted.

And of course we need time to laugh.

Vickie begins to cut out her couture jacket.

Debbie's lining on her couture jacket is fitted.

Note the large seam allowances on Debbie's shoulders.

Her jacket fits perfectly in the front and back.
