Students enjoyed the sewing workshop for 3 nights.
|

Some students opted to stay for 4 or 7 nights.
|
Some of us have been lucky and attended
several of the workshops with Jane Foster. A few of
the ladies have come each year. It is a real treat to
be able to sew with Jane in the glass walled room just steps
from the ocean. To have someone that is not only
talented in design and sewing, but also kind hearted and
generous is really unbelievable. We, her students, so appreciate her!!
Many of us took an hour or two break in the afternoon.
Of course the break was often to go to fabric stores.
Back Porch in Pacific Grove is a quilt shop, but has very
interesting fabric. They had a display of quilts by Mary
McDowell that was fabulous. Jane loved the quilt made from a photo of a
dog. So look for a quilt of Sadie on the walls soon.
Across the street from Back Porch quilt shop is the
Pacific Grove Museum
featuring wildlife quilts. Very interesting to see.
One of our favorite quilts was made from photos of Asilomar
and the tide pools. The photos were grouped in Photoshop and then printed out on
cloth.
Findings (a fabric and notions store) in Carmel was
wonderful as usual.
Their buttons are always very interesting and unique, and
several ladies liked their wide assortment of ribbons.
We all go away with a small (or not so small) bag of goddies, and then some of us just have
to return the next day for more. So we are glad Carmel
is only about 10 minutes away.
Besides shopping, walking on the beach, bike riding,
reading while listening to the ocean, you can also take
short outings. Sally planned on stopping at the famous
Monterey Bay Aquarium
before she went home, and Sharon and Claire enjoyed
the Elkhorn Slough
were they saw nesting herons and trees with huge woodpecker
holes.
But after these short
breaks, we are all back to enjoying our time sewing with
each other and Jane.
|
|

Sally is wearing a tee-shirt she made,
and currently venturing into the art of fabric
painting. She had stencils from Marcy Tilton and
stamps which she used with paint to created her
designs on plain colored tee-shirts.
|

Her tee-shirt was surely enhanced. How
fun.
|
|

Sally made her pink jacket, and also worked
on felting blue yarn unto the white coat. How did she
find time for all of this in only 3 days? And she
was walking on the beach too!
|

These sisters were thinking. They
bought the same serger so they can help each other out!
|
|

Yolanda had Jane take her measurements, and
then she used this information to draft a moulage on paper.
Then she drafted a sloper, and from this made a muslin. Jane fitted this muslin to her body, and Yolanda was
then ready to
put it on her dress form. After stuffing the form, she has
a replica of her body shape!!
|

She then found a pretty cotton print at Findings for her
dress form. This will enhance her studio decor!
|
|

Zelda is working on a
cape
like jacket
from Vintage Vogue. She
finds very interesting patterns and fabrics.
|

Now what could be better than this?
Standing on a bench looking at the sand and ocean while Jane
marks the hem on your slacks.
|
|

Vicki used her dress form to drape a muslin
which will be used as a pattern for a Chanel type jacket.
|

Jane then checked to be sure the muslin fit
Vicki. |
|

This photo just doesn't allow you to see the
great fit on the jeans Lark made. Between Lark's shape
and Jane's fitting ability, you couldn't have gotten a
better fitting pair of jeans.
|

Lark used a Sandra Betzina Vogue pattern to
make a coat from white boiled wool. The collar had to
be shortened, but its an interesting pattern, and will
surely be a great coat.
|
|

Janice was determined to go home with her
Diane Ericson Java Jacket completed!
|

She purchased all the fabrics at Stone
Mountain and Daughter with Jane's help. She brought
bolts of fabric in the store to Jane, and Jane would
keep or reject the bolts and send her off to find others.
The result is awesome.
|
|

Diana with her great Folkwear pattern coat.
You can tell she loves it.
|

JoAnn really looks great in her Sandra
Betzina top and slacks. The colors are in her harmony
and look stunning on her.
|
|

JoAnn made several skirts while at Jane's
workshop. She is standing on a deck outside of the our
sewing room.
|

Group discussion was followed by a spinning
demonstration by Kathleen.
|
|

Kathleen is learning the joys of quilting
and getting all those blocks to match exactly in size!
|
 |
|

Claire is making 11 garments that all
coordinate for her European vacation. They are
in shades of grey / lilac. She is going to look and
feel fabulous.
|

Helen came with her daughter. She had
two pieces of tee-shirt fabric that she purchased from Emma
One Sock. They each made their tee-shirts in no time
at all.
Also note the vest Jane is wearing which won
a prize at a Marin show.
|
|

Jane is giving a demonstration on the pressing
machine.
|

Jasna used the pressing machine to adhere
Armor weft interfacing to all her pattern pieces for her
jacket. She became the queen at pressing.
|
|

After all the pieces were interfaced, Jasna
constructed the jacket and its time to press again!
|

Even the best of us need a seam ripper once in
a while. |
|

Christine was fun to watch, and she got a
lot accomplished.
|

Diana looks relaxed and peaceful.
A wonderful lady that sews with Jane.
|
|

Maria
is having fun. |

Jane has achieved a great fit on Maria's
jacket. She is a gifted student, and we are waiting to
see her projects at the next Asilomar workshop with Jane.
|
|

Part of the group posed with garments in
various stages of completion using fabric from
Emma-One-Sock. The mother daughter team in the
back completed their yellowish tee-shirts, as did Diana at
the far right. JoAnn finished her asymmetrical top,
and Kathleen and Maria are still in the draping stages.
Jasna has a bit of work left on her jacket, and Sharon's
vest is almost done. They all were pleased with
their purchases from Emma One Sock.
|
|

Notice all the smiles and laughter
in these photos. We couldn't have had a better time.
|

She is beaming!!
So happy to be with
Jane at her workshop. |
