Sally's Comments on SWAP:
I found the planning part of the swap more difficult than I expected. I already owned the denim and the 2 t-shirt knits and wanted to use them (clean out the stash and they're great basics.) Then I came across the stripe boucle knit on emmaonesock.com and loved it. Then I got stuck and almost quit.
I did some soul searching and thought about what I really needed, so I went hunting for the black. On my do or die day (It was already January and no swap sewing had happened yet!) I went to Joannes and spent a couple of hours. To my surprise I came away with 5 yards of a great black bottom weight knit, the sheer purple which I love, and something else I didn't use in the swap. The amazing thing is I only spent $42 between coupons and sales. I was thrilled!
While cruising the web I found the waffle knit I used for my jacket. I'd never been to the fashion fabrics web site before, but the quality and speed were great.
I'd intended to make denim pants as well, but didn't have enough fabric, then we had a heat wave and a skort sounded really good. Of course it's been cool and rainy since, but I know spring will come!
I worked with my teacher, Jane Foster, off and on, and as always she was great. She guided me through the closures on my jacket and helped me button shop!
The swap is a great idea and I now think in terms of groupings of garments. It was great motivation for some fun and functional sewing.
